Body Welding in the 2020s: Toward Zero CO2 Emissions

To tackle the challenge of global warming, Toyota has set itself the goal of eliminating factory CO2 emissions by 2035. However, a factory cannot operate without energy, and so Toyota plans to minimize energy requirements at its plants and enable them to operate on a minimal supply of renewable energy. Presented here is a partial reproduction of a welding line introduced in 2020. The goal of zero CO2 emissions cannot be achieved by simply extending or enhancing existing technologies. Toyota had aggressively developed and deployed innovative technologies to reduce its energy use in 2020 by over 40% compared with the 1990s, but there is still a long way to go. Toyota will keep pursuing further technological innovations to produce cars that are friendly to the environment.
