Danly 600-ton Press

In 1960, Toyota installed fourteen 600-ton presses made by Danly of the U.S. in two lines for stamping operations in its Motomachi Plant, Japan's first automobile plant built exclusively for producing passenger cars. The introduction of these presses was groundbreaking. Their quick-die-change (QDC) feature, in particular, and high-speed operation - which was connected to the higher safety of the under drive system - raised productivity remarkably. Toyota's stamping lines attracted widespread attention and greatly influenced the enhanced performance of presses made in Japan in subsequent years.
